Sega is a multinational video game developer and publisher based in Japan. The company developed video game consoles at one point, but eventually turned to publishing the actual games after heavy competition.
Sega was founded in 1940 in Honolulu, Hawaii by Martin Bromely, Irving Bromberg, and James Humpert . The company's original purpose was to provide coin-operated entertainment machines for American servicemen in military bases. After the war, Sega moved to Japan in 1951, to which it was registered one year later under "SErvice GAmes of Japan". Sega is one of the largest publishers in the world, 7th in the United States in 2008. Despite the shaky state of the economy, Sega has numerous games planned on the horizon.
