PAGENAME is the initial training mission.

 +
The PAGENAME is the operations center for the secret American agency Alpha Protocol. It's location is unknown to all or almost every agent of the agency due to it's elaborate and secretive operating procedures. This facility is the starting location of the game as well as the final location. The Graybox is also considered the initial training mission of the game, named after the facility. The final mission takes the player back to the Graybox after three months time.
Summary
Mike Thorton has awoken to find himself in a medical bay in a secret government facility. He soon escapes with the help of a newly encountered analyst and begins his journey to unravel the mystery of the situation. Fight your way through the Graybox to uncover where you are and why you were picked for this particular assignment.

 +
Information
Objectives and Walkthoughs
 +
The facility itself is in an unknown location. The exact location is unknown by Michael Thorton or any of the other agents at the agency. It is stated in an in-game e-mail that the standard procedure for bringing agents and people to or from the facility is to sedate the individual before readying them to be transported to The Graybox. It is unknown if high-ranking or key members of Alpha Protocol are an exception to this rule or if they are somehow made aware of the facility's exact location.

 +
The facility is guarded by selected members of the United States Military. These members, dressed in suits of black and orange-yellow utility armor, are highly trained and dangerous. They protect the facility from any invaders or threats. Unlike the agents, they are stated (by Sean Darcy) to stay on-site for prolonged periods of time ("The ones here have got a lot of time on their hands, and that means a lot of time to hold grudges"). This means they are either kept in The Graybox for prolonged periods of time, or that they are confined to The Graybox indefinitely.
Find Your Captors

 +
Among the soldiers, other agents (encountered as men wearing black suits) occupy the facility as well. There are numerous agents under the agency, all of whom operate under the same procedures and guidelines as Michael Thorton.
Find out who's responsible for drugging you and bringing you here.

After picking up the PDA an analyst, Mina Tang will contact you. You unlock dossier info on Mina once you pick up the PDA. The following conversation consists of these responses:

Michael Thorton – “Nothing, just clearing my head.”

* Aggressive: Unlocked dossier info Mina Tang

* Suave: Unlocked dossier info Mina Tang

* Professional: Unlocked dossier info Mina Tang

Mina Tang – “…eventually, he’s going to come check on you.”

* Ambush: Perk acquired - Aggressive; Result: +5 CQC Strike Damage (must answer aggressively to both choices)

* Improvise: Perk acquired - Suave; Result: -10% Bonus on cooldowns (must answer suavely to both choices)

* Distraction: Perk acquired - Professional; Result: +5 Endurance (must answer professionally to both choices)

* Ignore: Nothing

Keep in mind that for every enemy you take down with hand or guns you will get +10 XP

Break Out
Choosing 'Distraction' is the only possible way to defeat the guards on stealth. Mina will glitch the security panel to distract the guards and unlock the door for you to escape. Choosing 'Improvise' or 'Ignore' will cause Mike to smash the glass using a fire extinguisher. Choosing 'Ambush' will cause Mina to trigger the alarm and break open the door. (If you're playing as Veteran, there will be two guards patrolling the corridor.)

Once you have defeated the guard/s, proceed to the door at the end of the corridor. Once you open the door, the alarm will automatically trigger.

Result: +180 Experience

Disable Alarms
Once you open the door, the alarm will automatically trigger. Unfortunately, there is no way of avoiding this. Mina instructs you to bypass the alarm panel on the wall. After you have deactivated the alarm, open the door to the lobby that consists of two guards patrolling the area.

Result: +180 Experience

Arm Yourself
Defeat / sneak past the guards and pick up the Tranquiliser Pistol located on the desk at the end of the room.

Result: +175 Experience

Once you move to the right wing of the lobby, you will come across a second guard. Defeat / sneak past him and advance to the door at the end of the hall.The next room has a guard, typing on a computer. There is +12 tranquiliser ammo on the desk on the left as soon as you enter. Defeat / sneak past the guard and walk down the stairs where Mina will warn to watch out for cameras. She also explains that if they spot you or you destroy them, they will sound an alarm. Sneak past the cameras and open the door to a large area on the ground floor.

There will be two guards patrolling the floors. Defeat / sneak past the guards and continue down the the end of the area to the door. There is +12 tranquiliser ammo in each of the rooms to the left and right of the area.

Pick lock
Once you have opened the door, there is another door at the end of the room which is locked. Pick the lock and progress into the narrow hallway.

Result:

*+25 Experience for picking the lock

*+150 Experience for completing the quest

Evade Guards
There is +12 tranquiliser ammo on the shelves before entering the next area.Once you have opened the door, Mike takes down a guard and Mina warns him about a truck entering the area and that there are more guards at the exit. There is +12 tranquiliser ammo where you are standing. Continue down the stairs where there are three guards. The best way to get through the area on stealth is to wait for the guard closest to you to start walking towards the ladder. Wait until the guard is completely out of sight from the other two guards and take him down. If you have the 'Evasion' skill, you can sneak past him and climb the ladder without harming him at all. Walk along the high ground and keep close to the wall so the guards don't spot you.

Result: +250 Experience

If you get caught, the quest will be a fail, and you don't get any experience. 2 more guard will run into the area, and there will be an extra guard in the next room.

Hack Computer
When you get to the next door you will enter a room with one guard who walks to check the fuse box on the wall. You can either defeat him first or hack the computer.

Result:

*+25 Experiencefor hacking a computer

*+220 Experience for completing the quest

After both is done, head through the door underneath the camera. There is $2500 Cash in a bookcase opposite the door. When you enter the next room, Mina will get cut off and the doors close. Head through the next door where you will have your first conversation with your boss.

Result: +1300 Experience

You unlock dossier info on Yancy Westridge and Alpha Protocol once you enter the interrogation room. You can also earn the perk Testing The Waters by choosing one of each dialogue stance. The following conversation consists of these responses:

* Dismissive - Nothing

* Loyal - Nothing

* Recruit - Nothing (available only if a difficulty is Recruit)

* Veteran - Nothing (available only if a difficulty is Veteran)

* Mission - Nothing

* Sarcastic - Nothing

* Ready - Nothing

*Green - you have used the Recruit stance 3 times. Result: +2 AP

*Rookie Move - you chose the Recruit stance 10 times. Result: +8 AP

*Veteran Attitude - You've selected the Veteran stance in conversations 10 times. Result: +500 XP

There are a total of 10 chances to select Veteran and the same number of chances to select Recruit is presented inside graybox. Outside graybox those responses are extremely rare, so if you want 'Rookie Move' or 'Veteran Attitude' perks, you are better off focusing on choosing those responses inside the facility.

Report To Training Sector
Proceed to the training area for advanced training. Complete the Technical Gadgets, Weapons and Espionage Ops orientations and return to Westridge for your interrogation.

Before you enter the training sector, you come across a guard standing at the door to your left. Walking towards him will cause him to respond to you saying either, "You dont have clearance to come in here." or "Area's off limits, use your PDA if you turned around." When you enter the training sector, Westridge will suggest you change into your gear over the radio.

Result: +50 XP

Change Appearance
Here you can customise Mike's facial appearance and you also have the choice of wearing hats or glasses.

Result: +25 XP

Each type of relationships brings their own benefits to you. For example, when a lot of people like you, you will get lower prices, more different items, possibility to romance women, and other benefits. When a lot of people dislike you, you can get best weapons and many skills that boosts your abilities. The important thing is to stay on one of those three type to get most of benefits.

Perks related to people, you may get during your training in Graybox:

* Antisocial - +250 XP You earned the antipathy of three people.

After the course has been completed, Darcy logs your score onto the computer. If you scored more than a total of 100 points, he will offer you Disable Technical Ops Alarms challenge. If you agree, you acquire the perk Betting Man - 5% Intel Discount for Saudi missions.

If you choose to repeat the training session any traps left in place at the end of the previous attempt will still be there, letting you set up the field before the timed section even begins. It's even possible to place shock traps inside the room where the guards spawn, taking a couple of them out before they even enter the main room.

Consequences in following missions
Parker's friendliness level: If Parker has animosity or hate towards you, he will not believe you when you try to convince him that Marburg shot Madison in Rome during the Graybox escape. You can only convince him if you found out Parker was her dad.

Other Notes
This mission is your first chance to get the Social Butterfly/Anti-Social achievements/trophies for having 3 people like/hate you.

This mission is your first chance the Building a Better Mouse Trap achievement/trophy (as the grenades in the Gadget training course respawn.

This mission is your first chance to obtain the four weapons achievements/trophies as long as your score remains below 100. For example, during Mina's firearms course, take the time to get headshots with the Assault Rifle and critical hits with the Pistol and Shotgun.

Similarly, Darcy's mission can be used to get the Perk "Perfect Pitch" by lobbing 50 grenades with the preview arc. Also If you feel like running the Gadgets corse over and over scoring less that 100 each time (just wait 1 minute 20 sec before puting the shock mine on the door) you can get the Shock & Awe perk for incapacitating 50 enemies with a shock trap. Shock trap carry capacity +1.

Also, graybox is a perfect place to get the "One-Track Mind" (+5% damage resistance) perk, since it's packed with conversations with next to no action inbetween and very little singinficant consequences resulting from them. You get more then 30 chances to pick a response that qualify for "One-Track Mind" inside graybox (somewhere around 39 I think), however pursuing that perk inside graybox means that you will not be able to get "Veteran Attitude" (+500 exp) or "Rookie Move" (+8 AP) ("Green" is still possible though). The recomended approach to chose for "One-Track Mind" is "Professional" since all NPCs inside graybox react to it either neutraly or positively. To those with "Veteran" background I recomend to start the sequence after choosing "Veteran" for Parker once, as this will net you maximum possible rep. with Parker (and his Rep. is the only one that matters in the long run). To those with "Recruit" background I recomend getting "Green" first and then starting the sequence, however "Rookie Move" perk might be a better choice than "One-Track Mind" considering the lack of AP for this background. Trying to get "One-Track Mind" after the graybox is not recomended, since there is much more action between conversations there, and some of them may give significantly worse results when not taken seriousely. Also, keep in mind that those 30 responces will greatly shift Thorton's approach preference and greatly affect some other coversation related things such as killing Conrad Marburg or gaining "Hard to read" perk. Still, if you want "One-Track Mind", there's no better place for it than graybox.

Completing Mina's Weapons Training will result in receiving a Assault Rifle Scope. It's very useful, as it's probably the best of all the aiming sights accessory for ARs, and you can save some money: it's expensive as well.

In addition to perks, you can also redo Darcy's mission to gain XP. During the timed portion of the mission, you are required to subdue 4 guards to proceed. One with a shock trap attached to a door, and three more with your choice of either shock traps or martial arts. You gain 10XP for each guard, for a total of 40XP per run through. While tedious, you can repeat as many times as you like for unlimited XP as long as you do not exceed a score of 100.

Also, you can redo Parker's training and get 10 XP for each of the two guards (for a total of 20). Parker's training can be redone as many times as you like regardless of your score (since he only offers the Retrieve Data mission after you say no to retaking the test). While gleaning XP from the guards in this scenario is more time-consuming that in Darcy's, there are fewer guards to fight and there is no need to hold back.

During Parker's training, it's possible to get both the Tough As Nails and Insurance Liability perks. Endurance does not count in the "damage sustained" category (see service record), but health does and your health will stop depleting at 1. During 1 attempt at this, the game glitched and my damage kept counting AFTER it went below 1. Not sure how it glitched. Second time it worked, I let the first guard drain my life, beat him up, deactivated the alarm and let endurance recharge, then tripped the alarm again and went to say hi to the other guard. You can tell the glitch didn't work if your endurance doesn't deplete. Otherwise, just do the course 10 times for Tough As Nails and 50 times for Insurance Liability.

Note on the glitch: After the first punch that takes vitality to 1 run away from the guard until endurance starts regenerating naturally then let the guard hit you again and damage keeps counting. (worked on unpatched version)

It is possible to get both the Breaking and Entering perks (pick the lock 10 times) and the Data Theft (hack the computer 10 times). Both of these come with 100 XP. If you feel like tripping an alarm, feel free. Unlike any of the other alarm systems in the game, the alarm panel in this course can be hacked multiple times. Hack it 20 times to get the Circuit Breaker perk (and another 100 XP).

Easter Egg: If you chose the Veteran background for Mike, Mina's transmission will be interrupted by the NSA agent from the gelato shop in Rome.

The Graybox is the operations center for the secret American agency Alpha Protocol.

Information[]

The facility itself is in an unknown location. The exact location is unknown by Michael Thorton or any of the other agents at the agency. It is stated in an in-game e-mail that the standard procedure for bringing agents and people to or from the facility is to sedate the individual before readying them to be transported to The Graybox. It is unknown if high-ranking or key members of Alpha Protocol are an exception to this rule or if they are somehow made aware of the facility's exact location.

Among the soldiers, other agents (encountered as men wearing black suits) occupy the facility as well. There are numerous agents under the agency, all of whom operate under the same procedures and guidelines as Michael Thorton.
